"A river touching the back of a town is like a wing. River towns are winged towns."    (Henry David Thoreau)

River Portraits

The Charles River Basin and its parklands are among the most beautiful public places in eastern Massachusetts, but time and neglect have taken their toll. The Conservancy' goal is to revitalize the parklands into vibrant recreational areas. Increasing public awareness of the parklands' plight and soliciting community involvement to refurbish them will help us reclaim this urban treasure. That's why we'd like your help in creating a series of "River Portraits."

By sharing your fondest recollections of time spent along the Charles, you'll help us renew the spirit of the river and the lands that surround it.

Also read more about The Charles River in the Arts—appearing in books, movies, poetry and songs.
