The Second Annual
Charles River Mile Swim Race!
Join the Charles River Swimming Club and the Charles River Conservancy on the banks of the Boston Esplanade on Sunday June 15th for the Second Annual Charles River Mile Swim Race. Swimmers who are interested in participating in the mile swim can sign up for the race here. For more information about the race you can visit the Charles River Swimming Club’s website.
To expand upon last year’s historic first swim in the Charles River in the past 50 years, there will be a celebratory splash with Nancy Schön, the creator of the “Make Way for Ducklings” statues. Nancy, who grew up swimming in the Charles, has not entered the river since it was closed over 50 years ago so will be leading the charge to celebrate the improved water quality of the river. Other instrumental figures from the cleaning of the Charles River, as well as political figures from the Boston and Cambridge area, will be joining Nancy in the splash.
ThinkSwiss will be partnering with the Charles River Conservancy to display information and images highlighting examples of swimming structures located on rivers throughout Switzerland. The Charles River Swim will mark the kickoff of this partnership examining the Swiss example of how to integrate swimming into an urban river environment. These examples represents a potential future for the Charles River
Please join us Sunday, June 15th at 8:00 AM on the River Dock by the stature of Author Fiedler’s head by the Hatch Schell on the Esplanade for this event. Contact Ben Martens bdm@thecharles.org for more information.
