CHARLES  RIVER  PARKLANDS  UPDATE
December 2006
Archives—Table of Contents

Gifts that help the Parkland

The Conservancy is offering a few gift ideas that allow you to support the parklands and show off your style. “Tie one on for the Charles River Skatepark” with our new Skatepark tie, a perfect gift for skaters and their dads. This and other skatepark gifts can be viewed and ordered by clicking here.

Other Parklands gifts include the Charles River Parklands Map Poster and Karl Haglund’s Inventing the Charles, co-published by The MIT Press. You can purchase both at The Globe Corner Bookstore in Cambridge or by clicking here.

Conservancy Volunteers Making a Difference

A big thank you goes out to all of this year’s volunteers, with nearly 2,500 people choosing to reinvest in the banks of the Charles. We continue our work all winter long with tree pruning.

And remember, it’s not too early to schedule an event for this spring! If you would like to schedule an event for your school, company, or organization please contact Evan Moss, our Stewardship Manager, at elm@thecharles.org or the telephone number shown in the column to the left.

Skatepark News

If you have not seen it yet, be sure to check out the new Skatepark DVD by clicking here. Show your support of the skatepark by checking out our great gifts, including the tie, t-shirts, and key rings (click here).

The CRC on CCTV

Local sculptor and skatepark enthusiast Nancy Schön will be joining Renata von Tscharner on December 27th at 5.30 pm and again at 12.30 am on the Conservancy’s television program (CCTV, channel 9 Cambridge only). Mrs. Schön is famous for her sculpture “Make Way for Ducklings” in the Public Garden and is a dedicated skatepark advocate.

Active Parklands

Would you enjoy spending Sunday mornings cycling or in-line skating down a car-free Storrow drive? To read more about this possibility click here.

Annual Appeal

The new year promises to be a dynamic one for the Charles River Conservancy, and we are already hard at work attempting to shape the Parklands for 2007. A year’s-end donation in support of our cause will make an important difference in what we can accomplish concerning our advocacy, our Conservancy Volunteers Program, and our Skatepark Campaign. We hope that you consider giving generously to our campaign to restore the Charles River Parklands as the community’s crown jewel. You can donate online by clicking here.

The Charles River Conservancy takes as its mission the renewal and stewardship of the Charles River Parklands and their surroundings, particularly parks, parkways and bridges. The Conservancy engages in numerous Parklands restoration and improvement initiatives, including access and safety, education and outreach, and planning and maintenance programs, and relies heavily on individual contributions.
